We purchased a house with an ancient and neglected softener. It had water flowing through it, but probably hadn't had salt added in years.

I wasn't sure if there was much hope of salvaging it. I replaced a leaking gasket and cleaned the brine tank. I ran a batch of this cleaner through and our tap water turned almost black. As gross as it was, it was a good thing (the acid had removed the many years of accumulation from the resin bed). I ended up running three batches of cleaner through, and then added salt. Sure enough the system began working. This saved me from having to replace the resin bed! Our ancient softener systems works like new.

I just ordered 2 more bottles so I can run this through once or twice a year to maintain the cleanliness of the resin bed.

Mixing required but this is an advantage since it means the concentration can be increased as needed.

I rarely comment about things I buy but this stuff was amazing. I had tried everything, CLR, Lime away, and the lemon dishwasher stuff they sell at [...]. These all barely made any difference, just wasted my money. Tried all kinds of different dishsoaps, etc. Finally experimented with this stuff and it instantly cleaned all hard water deposits from my dishwasher. Then I washed glasses and dishes that had hard water residue, they looked like new!. Mixed it hot water, its a cleaner for bathtubs, etc. Works amazingly.
